We’re Tweaking Our Submission Process

This Week In Writing, we celebrate an editor, ask for your opinion, and make a few changes to our submission rules.Photo by AbsolutVision on Unsplash, Edited by the author

Our Submission Rules are a living document. Jessica and I make changes and adapt them a few times each year based on changes at Medium and feedback from our writers. Our goal is to have clear rules that encourage high-quality submissions that meet Medium’s rules and distribution standards. Today, we’re updating and clarifying a handful of rules. Here are a few of the notable updates:

Accidentally published, deleted, and resubmitted stories are no longer rejected. While we prefer all submissions are metered (behind Medium’s paywall), we will now allow some high-quality stories from people who are not yet eligible for Medium’s Partner Program. We prefer primary sources when citing and linking to relevant information. We also reduced some of the requirements for SEO and image formatting.

You can find a complete list of changes at the bottom of our Submission Rules. As always, we welcome all unique takes on anything that helps writers grow. If you’re not a writer, please join us!

Have you taken our Fall Community Survey yet? You have until October 31 to fill out the survey for a chance to win a $50 gift card. Please take 10 minutes and help us make The Writing Cooperative the best it can be. Take the Fall Community Survey today.

Finally, today we’re sad to say goodbye to Joanna Poole. For several years, Jo has faithfully helped Jessica and me manage The Writing Cooperative. She’s often the first editor to review submissions, and she processes all requests for writers. We’re grateful for Jo and thank her for her dedicated service.

We’re Tweaking Our Submission Process was originally published in The Writing Cooperative on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.
